Frequently Asked
Questions
This is due to retail competition; retail electricity suppliers (RES) source supply from their own power generators or from the spot market (WESM) and compete for your community’s electricity demand on our platform. Unlike your Distribution Utility (DU) who only pass-through generation costs, RES operates in a competitive retail market.
Only 2 things will change: (1) you will now get your monthly bill from your retail electricity supplier on your My Powerhouse account; and (2) it will be cheaper than the prevailing generation rate of your Distribution Utility (DU) for their captive customers who have not switched to the competitive retail market.
No, as there is a pending application with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) by Distribution Utilities (DU) for their Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) rollout. Their metering-related cost is intended to be recovered socially through a rate reset of the Distribution Charges for everyone, not as an upfront one-time fee charged to you.
No, your Distribution Utility (DU) will continue to reliably deliver electricity to your home—like they always have—as they are assigned by law to serve everyone within their franchise area (e.g. MERALCO in the Greater Manila Area). You are still paying them for that service through the Distribution Charge on your bill.
Yes, as long as the service address on your electricity bill is located within the community you are joining and are not yet participating in any of the demand management programs of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), such as net metering, peak/off-peak (time of use), and DER programs. You can join even if you have solar panels, as long as you are not on net metering.
Yes, the standard contract term is two (2) years, starting from the switch date to the new supplier. You commit to this lock-in period only upon signing the retail supply contract (RSC) and can switch back to being a captive customer of your Distribution Utility (DU)—if you plan to do net metering or peak/off-peak programs—at least 30 days before the end of your contract.
We earn revenue primarily through transaction commissions charged to retail electricity suppliers (RES) and from subscription fees on our other add-on software solutions for enterprise customers. Using My Powerhouse will always be free of charge. Any convenience fees upon payment are charged by third-party payment partners.
